There are no restrictions on the amount of foreign currency or traveler's checks you may bring into India provided a declaration is made in the Currency Declaration Form given upn arrival. This will enable you to not only exchange the currency brought in, but also to take the unspent currency out of India on departure.

Cash, bank notes and traveler's checks up to USD 10,000 or equivalent need not be declared at the time of entry. |

Sign each traveler's check in the top left corner to protect yourself in case of loss or theft. |

Any money in the form of traveler's checks, drafts, bills, checks, etc. in convertible currencies should be exchanged only through authorized moneychangers. |
