Spelling Bee
Touchdown Media Inc., a leading
South Asian advertising firm
announced the inaugural State
Farm South Asian Spelling Bee
today at a press conference held at
EARTH, NYC in Manhattan.
The event is open for children of
South Asian descent up to 14 years

a chance to test their spelling
skills in their core peer group. Interested
spellers need their parent
or guardian to register them online
at www.southasianspellingbee.com.
Organized by Touchdown Media
Inc., the event will be conducted
starting June 28 across the
United States in eight locations.
Called the regional centers, these
locations are New York, New Jersey,
Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San
Francisco Bay area, Los Angeles
and the Washington DC metro
area.
“We wanted to create a unique
and exciting platform for South
Asian children to be able to compete
within their core peer group,
and what better way to do that
other than something they already
excel in! So for us ‘The South Asian
Spelling Bee’, provides that perfect
opportunity”, said Rahul Walia,
CEO, Touchdown Media Inc.
On the designated day for the
chosen center, each speller will be
given a written test of 25 words,
which they have to spell correctly
to advance to the afternoon oral
round. Only 30 spellers will move
to the oral round where the top
three will be chosen for scholarships.
Makemytrip.com has inducted
scholarships of $500, $300
and $200 to be awarded to the top
three spellers in each regional.
From the top three, only the top
two spellers will then advance to
the FINALS to be held in New
Jersey on August 16. The event will
be free and open to the public. For
the FINALS, Western Union has
inducted a $5000 scholarship to
be awarded to the champion.
“For the last few years, State Farm
has been working to build a strong
partnership with the South Asian
community and support events
and programs that can provide
young people with the knowledge
and experience they will need as
future leaders”, said Ed Gold, Advertising
