Khavda Flamingo Colony in Gujarat is reputed among the biggest flamingo colony in the world. Each year, about half a million flamingos migrate from hotter climates to the watery expanse of this area to breed. A glimpse of this extraordinary display involves a five hour camel ride in the grueling desert conditions, making even the avid birdwatcher think twice. Other species of birdlife includes putter-fish, stork, heron, ibis, pelican and wader.
