ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN DELHI

Upon arrival transfer and check into to the hotel. Afternoon half-day tour of Old Delhi and New Delhi. Visit the Red Fort, translated as the Lal Qila in Hindi, the fort is laid out along the River Yamuna as an irregular octagon. Surrounded by a wall of about 2.4 kms in circumference, it is built of red sandstone and completed in 1648. The fort has two main entrances, the Delhi Gate and the Lahori Gate. The latter faces Chandni Chowk, the city's most crowded but diverse market. The Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India, was also built by Shah Jahan. The Humayun's Tomb, an attractive structure, is believed to be the fore-runner of the famous Taj Mahal of Agra. The most well-known landmark of Delhi, Qutub Minar, is one of the earliest remains of imperial Delhi (13th Century AD) and the tallest monuments of early times. Also pass by the Connaught Place, India Gate and the Presidentail Palace - The Rashtrapati Bhawan. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 2: DELHI - AGRA - BHANDAREJ

Depart to Agra, the City of the Taj. Visit the Taj Mahal, the most extravagant monument ever built for love. The Taj is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and was built by Mughall Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife. The Agra Fort, built by Emperor Akbar is another attractive monument with the maze of courtyards, mosques and the private chambers of the Fort. Thereafter, drive to Bhandarej. Upon arrival, check into the hotel. In the evening, visit the intricately carved 'step well' that the place is pretty popular for. Not to miss the Neena tribal village, the Hindu temples and the beautiful Bhadrawati palace. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 3: BHANDAREJ - JAIPUR

A full day excursion to Jaipur, the city that is known to have more pink-colored buildings than anyplace else. Visit the Amber Fort and enjoy an elephant ride on the way into the fort. Follow this up with a tour of the city and visit the City Palace, the Observatory, the Hawa Mahal (Wind Palace) and a drive around the City of Jaipur. A must do in Jaipur is shopping jewellery, handicrafts, clothes and the famous lakh bangles. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 4: JAIPUR - MUKUNDGARH

Drive to Mukundgarh. Upon arrival, check into the hotel. The Mukundgarh Fort and its many havelis (mansions) stand as witness to the interests, arts and lifestyle of the Maharajahs and nobility of those times. The fort was founded in the mid-18th century by Raja Mukund Singh. It is been built in the traditional style, spreading over 2 acres of land with several courtyards, overhanging balconies, arched windows and the framed frescoes that made the Shekhawati region so more popular. Besides, Mukundgarh's painted buildings and facades just are so- eye-catching. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 5: MUKUNDGARH - BIKANER

Drive to Bikaner, the city of deserts that has better come to be known for the mouth-watering 'bhujias', a traditional India dry, salty mixture, that it specializes in. Check into the hotel upon arrival. Take a tour of the city in the afternoon and visit the impressive Junagarh Fort. Constructed in the 16th century, it has a 986 meter-long wall with 37 bastions and two entrances. The Suraj Pol, or Sun Gate, is the main entrance to the fort. Visit the Chandra Mahal, or Moon Palace, with paintings, mirrors and carved marble panels, the Phool Mahal, or Flower Palace also decorated with glass and mirrors, the Karan Mahal that was built to commemorate a notable victory over the Mughal Aurangzeb. The Lallgarh Palace built in 1902 is an exquisite piece of work in sandstone. It stands out as a contrast to the bleak and rugged desert outside. DAY 6: BIKANER - JAISALMER

Drive to Jaisalmer, the "Golden City" of Rajasthan. Golden sands and rolling dunes are the popular images of Jaisalmer and a visit to this desert post will only confirm your impression. Upon arrival check into the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 7: JAISALMER

A half-day morning city tour of Jaisalmer, visit the Jaisalmer Fort. This golden - yellow sandstone structure, over 800 years old, crowns the Trikuta Hill. Its walls, defended by 99 turrets, shelter the old city. Once an important gate for trade route, Jaisalmer grew wealthy on the trade money. The Patwon-ki-Haveli is a group of five mansions that are probably the best in the area with their delicate carvings, pillars and murals. The Jain temples in the area are particularly interesting with their age-old designs - they were built between the 12th and the 16th centuries. The local market is, like always, a great place to catch up on local past and present. In the afternoon, proceed to Sam Sand Dunes on the outskirts of Jaisalmer and enjoy a camel ride to its famous Sunset Point. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 8: JAISALMER - ROHETGARH

Drive to Rohetgarh. Upon arrival, check into the hotel. Visit the Rohetgarh Fort in the afternoon and later proceed for a village safari to the Bishnoi Village. The members of the Bishnoi community follow the 29 rules laid down by Jambhoji 1485, which are the basic principles of the ecology. Some of these rules include 'don't kill any animal, 'don't cut down green trees', 'take from the fields only what you need'. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 9: ROHETGARH - JODHPUR - ROHETGARH

A full day excursion to Jodhpur, the second largest city in the state of Rajasthan. The Mehrangarh Fort, sitting atop a steep hill, is one of the largest forts in India. The fort has it all that grand forts have - force, beauty, struggle and character. Sculptures and paintings that speak of the Kings who ruled it. To enter the fort seven gates have to be crossed and these gates enclose within them a number of palaces. The Jaswant Thada is a fantastic structure made in sheets of white marble so thin that that sunlight seems to filter through it in gentle rays. There are also two more tombs inside the structure. The local markets are packed with the memorabilia that one would like to carry home. Return to Rohetgarh in the evening. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 10: ROHETGARH - MT. ABU

Proceed to Mt Abu by road. Mt Abu is Rajasthan's only hill station and a beautiful one at that complete with green hills, steep rocks, a tranquil lake, picturesque locations and of course a pleasant climate to go with it all. Upon arrival, check into the hotel. Visit the Dilwara Temple, a masterpiece of a monument that dates back to the 11th-13th centuries. The popular Nakki Lake in Mt. Abu is like a star attraction of the city. articularly interesting are the strange rock formations around the lake. Look out for the Toad Rock which looks like a real toad about to jump into the lake. Others are Nun Rock and Nandi Rock etc. Set in the heart of the town, the lake gets its name from the legend that it was scooped out by the gods with their fingernails or 'Nakh'. It is the only artificial lake in India that is 1200 mts. above sea level.and Sunset Point in the afternoon. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 11: MT. ABU - DUNGARPUR

Proceed to Dungarpur by road. Upon arrival, check into the hotel. In the afternoon, visit the Udai Vilas Palace and enjoy a boat ride on the lake in the evening. This palace-turned-hotel dates back to the mid-19th century when Maharawal Udai Singhji-II, a great patron of art and architecture built a wing with bluish-grey local stone. It has sculptured pillars and panels, ornate balconies, balustrades, bracketed windows, arches and frieze of marble carvings complete with the works of good Rajput architecture. Dungarpur is full of surprises and promises to be a memorable experience. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 12: DUNGARPUR - UDAIPUR

Proceed to Udaipur, the 'Venice of the East', by road. Upon arrival, check into the hotel. Take a half-day afternoon city tour and visit the City Palace, a marvel of marble and granite. This is the largest palace in Rajasthan and never fails to delight one with its exquisite workmanship. The shrine of Dhuni Mata and the museum of Rana Pratap are the highlights of this complex. Sahelion-Ki-Bari, a short distance away, has four pools and delicately carved kiosks in marble. The Jagdish temple houses some imposing sculpted figures and heavily ornamented interiors. Built in the early 18th century, this is now a popular tourist spot. The Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandir and the Fatehsagar Lake are the other sights that one could catch. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 13: UDAIPUR - DELHI - DEPARTURE

In the morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Delhi. A car and our escort will receive you at Delhi Airport. Rest of the time for leisure and shopping. Transfer to the international airport in the evening for your onward connection.

Fort Rajwada is situated on Barmer-Link Road in Jaisalmer. The Jaisalmer airport is 6 kms away, the railway station is 2 kms away and the bus stop about 3 kms away. The Jaisalmer Fort is about 3 kms away from the hotel. Please note, the Jaisalmer Airport operates from October to March only.

BIKANER

Bikaner is one of the three main destinations in Desert circuit and a royal fortified city with a timeless appeal of royal aura. The Camel Country as is popularly known, Bikaner is a beautiful desert city in the North-Western part of Rajasthan. This former princely state was founded in 1486 AD by Rao Bikaji as a small settlement at first, and then into a massive city.

Be it the imposing palaces, richly sculptured red sandstone temples, the milestone Ganga Canal or the rapid growth of industrialisation and agriculture (mainly Bajra, Jowar, Pulses), Bikaner has managed to hog the limelight for not only its culture and heritage but also for its advancement.

DUNGARPUR

Dungarpur or the ‘town of hillocks' founded 1335 AD is located in south Rajasthan and is said to have been under the rule of a Bhil Chieftain Rawal Veer Singh Dev, who is said to have been assassinated in the fourteenth century. Today, Dungarpur is famous for the various fairs it hosts - Beneshwar Fair, Urs at Galiakot and Neelapani. Channa or the Gher, the fascinating ring dance is said to have its origins here. One of the main tourist attractions of Dungarpur is the Juna Mahal. It is a seven-storied structure that resembles a fortress, dating back to the 13th century. The famous places to see in Dungarpur include the Gaib Sagar Lake. Set amongst scenic environs, the lake is a bird watcher's paradise.

There are various places around Dungarpur, which are cultural and historical must-visits. Baroda Village about 41 km from Dungarpur is famous for the ruins of temples of old Rajput architecture. The Boreshwar Mahadeo temple at Boreshwar located 83 km from Dungarpur, the Shiva Temple in Kanba Village about 9 km from Dungarpur, and the Shiva temple at Deo Somnath cannot be missed if you are going to south Rajasthan simply for its cultural beauty and historical importance.

UDAIPUR

Udaipur's biggest charm lies in its location: the foot of the Aravallis. They surround the city protectively, gifting it breathtaking views of the hills that rise and fall. Famous as the City of Lakes, evenings in Udaipur, especially by the lake side is an amazing experience, which can also be enjoyed from the city's numerous rooftop restaurants.

Udaipur is a jewel of Mewar with rich history, culture and Rajput-era palaces. Also called the most romantic city in India, it definitely is the most serene of all.
