PARAS MAHAL

City: Udaipur
Hotel Paras Mahal stands out in all of Udaipur's hotels because the decor, for once, is not Rajasthani. There are no hand painted walls here, no mirror inlay work, not even any colourful tapestry. But the hotel is plush, clean, calm; it smells nice, cuts out the noise and pollution of outside the moment you step in and has polished floors and courteous service. The decor is contemporary, with only two Rajasthani puppets at the reception reminding you that you are in Udaipur. The hotel lobby is spacious with comfortable couches.
Rooms The interiors of Hotel Paras Mahal are spacious and modern with glass elevators. Creepers through the corridors around a central covered courtyard around which the 60 rooms are set. The rooms are not divided into any categories. All are air conditioned with amenities such as intercom, television, tea/coffee maker, mini bar (chargeable), study table and cupboard. The rooms are very spacious and tastefully furnished. Most rooms have a window seat which overlooks the beautifully maintained gardens bursting with flowers.
The washrooms are clean, fitted with bath tubs and a 24-hour supply of hot and cold running water. Other amenities include soap, shower cap, bubble bath, moisturiser and shampoo. The guests can avail 24-hour room service. Dining Deepawali Restaurant is done in pretty shades of blue and white and serves multi cuisine fare. It can accommodate 60 people and looks over to the lawns. There is another restaurant which is reserved only for large groups. Hotel Paras Mahal also has a Lounge with a high ceiling from which suspend crystal chandelier. The Lounge is classy, done in beige and grey, laid out with couches and glass topped tables. It looks over to the hotel's inviting swimming pool and serves food as well as drinks. To the left of the lounge lies Swati, the coffee shop. Simply furnished, snacks are served here.
To the right of the Lounge lies the colourful bar called Urvashi. In contrast to the discreet luxury of the Lounge, the bar of Hotel Paras Mahal has yellow walls and cream and maroon couches. Bar stools are lined in one corner and low lamps hang on the tables. A quaint gramophone rests in a corner too. Another bar called 'Celebrations' lies on the outside, with a separate entrance. The hotel encourages non-guests to come to this bar to avoid any inconvenience for the guests staying at the hotel.
Facilities The hotel's swimming pool is shaped like a peanut and lovely, surrounded by greenery, white deck chairs lying about, and a greenhouse in the far corner. Hotel Paras Mahal also has excellent conference facilities in the form of two conference halls - Saraswati Sabhagar I and II. Both can accommodate 100 - 150 people in theatre style arrangement. All equipment such as LCD screen, projector and so on is available an extra charge. Done in blue and white, the conference halls are spic and span and have an outside entrance to avoid any inconvenience for the guests inside the hotel.

India has always been fixated with Mumbai earlier known as Bombay. It is India's archetypal metropolis, imbibing the most extreme of paradoxes. The dream factory is glitzy, home to Bollywood, a thriving commerce industry, the moneyed swish set and some of the country's best educational institutions. Initially a group of seven islands that were merged together by land reclamation, Mumbai has a rich Colonial heritage. An amble through the fort area is testimony to the fact, housing beautiful Gothic-Elizabethan buildings and monuments.
The distinct collage of Mumbai's population is reflected in the shopping. It is an inherent urban city where everything is on offer for everyone; where second hand book bazaars coexist with high-end shopping malls, where flower markets jostle with flea markets, where the quaint antiques market is belligerently housed in an area called the Chor Bazaar (Thieves' Bazaar). You haven't seen Mumbai if you havent sampled the street food - varied and vivacious, scrumptious and spicy, it will leave you asking for more as your eyes water and ears burn. Wash it down then with a tall glass of juice available all over Mumbai at stalls.
Having listed out the essentials, what one has to understand is that Mumbai escapes definition. It is a city constantly moving, changing, evolving, and it can be known only by being experienced. Everything exaggerated, impossible or unimaginable you might have heard about Mumbai is in fact true, and more. Look beyond its glaring disparities and you will discover its seductive spirit that keeps the city alive, making it what it is. India is great.

A crimson sun casting an orange hue, setting behind the luminescent white marble of the epitome of everlasting love 'The Taj Mahal', is probably the 'cliched' picture that leaps to our mind when we think of Agra. Why should it not? After all Taj Mahal remains unsurpassed in beauty. But there is much more to Agra than just the Taj Mahal. Agra has a rich and puristic cultural mix of the Persian and the Mughal era. It is home to many ancient relics and monuments of historical and cultural significance - Taj Mahal, the ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri, the exquisite tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah are just a few of the many wonders of pristine Mughal architecture that are nestled in the city.
Historians are of the general opinion that the city of Agra was founded in 1504 A.D. by Sikandar Lodi, the ruler of the Delhi Sultunate. Sikander Lodi's son, Ibrahim Lodi, ruled over the city after his father's death until he fell fighting Babar in the first battle of Panipat fought in 1526. Under the Mughals, the city witnessed the blossoming of some of the finest pieces of architecture ever made. The magnificence of the ancient times is not the only thing that would strike you with awe. In the backdrop of the monuments and the tombs, is a bustling industrial city getting richer by the day. Some of you might get down on your knees twice - at the Taj Mahal to propose and the second time to thank your stars for all the shopping you could do in the city! Agra has a thriving market of marble artifacts, silk fabrics, and leather goods available at dirt cheap rates.

Delhi is the present day version of Indraprastha, the legendary capital of Pandavas, and has in-between been seen various rulers on its throne, the longest being Mughals. No wonder Delhi has charmed writers, Sufi saints and travellers alike. The present Delhi is one of the most developed Indian as well as global cities albeit with its glorious past lurking across the city. The head of Indian government sits in Delhi in the Parliament in central Delhi, surrounded by forts and monuments of his ancestors, both autocratic and monarchs. These are places like Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, Jantar Mantar et al. Then there are imperial architectures around Lutyen's Delhi including Connaught Place, in heart of city and the closest Delhi can get to London's Trafalgar Square.
While these old one's have been there since long, the New Delhi, including NCR or National Capital Region has shown exemplary growth in architecture, business avenues, services, tourism and township. Let us have a quick trip across the capital...
