One of the oldest American cities, Richmond is the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia, a state in the South Region of the United States of America. The region was first settled in 1607 by English settlers Capt. Christopher Newport and Capt. John Smith, on a site previously inhabited by Powhatan Indians.
