Turkish Airlines is the national airline of Turkey, having its base in Istanbul. The airline is operating a big network of scheduled services to 155 destinations, including 32 domestic cities and 123 global cities. Turkish Airlines has its main base at Ataturk International Airport (IST) in Istanbul, and secondary hubs at Esenboga International Airport (ESB, Ankara) and Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW, Istanbul). The airline is an official member of Star Alliance and also has codeshare agreements with a number of international airlines.

History
Turkish Airlines was established on 20th May, 1933, as the State Airlines Administration - Devlet Hava Yollan (DHY). In August 1933, the airline started operations with an inaugural flight from Istanbul to Ankara. In September 1937, DHY received three De Havilland D.H. 86B biplane airliners. The following December, the airline received the fourth aircraft and expanded the domestic routes to Istanbul, Ankara, Adana, Diyarbakir, Eskisehir, Izmir and Kayseri. In June 1938 the name of the airline was changed to Devlet Hava Yollan Umum Mudurlugu. In 1947, the airline launched its international flight to Athens. However, after almost 40 years from then, the airline introduced long-haul flights to the cities located in Far East and across the Atlantic. On February 20, 1956, the state company DHY was replaced with Turk Hava Yollari AO. On 1st April, 2008, Turkish Airlines became a member of the Star Alliance. Presently Turkish Airlines is owned by TC Privatisation Administration (49%) and private shareholders (51%).
