Swiss Air

Switzerland´s national airline, SWISS or Swiss International Air Lines officially started operations on March 31, 2002. While its hub remains Zurich Kloten Airport, SWISS also operates from international airports at Basel and Geneva. Besides Swiss European Air Lines, a regional airline subsidiary, SWISS also owns two independent operating divisions - Swiss AviationTraining and Swiss WorldCargo.

Swiss International Airlines History

Now a part of the German airline, Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines was originally started as Crossair and was part of the holding company SAir Group along with Swissair, which was the former flag carrier of Switzerland. After the bankruptcy of Swissair in 2001, Crossair was renamed SWISS and became the national airline of Switzerland. On April 1, 2006, SWISS joined Star Alliance, the largest airline alliance serving a wide range of airports and countries.

Swiss Air Flight Destinations and Sources

A part of the Lufthansa Group and a member of the global Star Alliance, SWISS provides quality air services while connecting 76 destinations across 42 countries. The airline has codeshare agreement with 22 airlines that create a global network. SWISS operates scheduled services to North America, South America, Africa and Asia besides covering most of Europe. Countries covered by SWISS include Cameroon, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, China, Japan, India, Singapore, Thailand, Israel, Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungry, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom, Canada, United States of America, Brazil and Chile. Within India, SWISS offers flights to the international airports at Delhi and Mumbai, the two main metropolitan cities of the country. Under the codeshare agreement with Air India, SWISS operates flights on the Zurich - Mumbai & Zurich - Delhi sectors and allows Air India passengers to travel on these flights. Other important destinations covered by SWISS within Asia include Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bangkok and Singapore.

Swiss Air Fleet

While SWISS has a fleet of comprising only Airbus, Swiss European Air Lines, its subsidiary, has its own operator´s certificate and a non-Airbus fleet. SWISS has 77 aircrafts as part of its fleet comprising aircrafts like Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Airbus A321, Airbus A330, Airbus A340 and Avro RJ100.
