Commencing as Malayan Airways, the airline began its operations with a chartered flight from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur in 1947. Over the next few decades, the airline was renamed Malaysian Airlines, Malaysian Singapore Airlines and then finally Singapore Airlines in 1972. The Singapore Airlines fleet comprises 107 wide body aircrafts including Airbus A330-300, Airbus A340-500, Airbus 380-800, Boeing 747-400, Boeing 777-200ER, Boeing 777-300 and Boeing 777-300ER. The airline has placed an order of 62 additional aircrafts including Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A350-900 XWB.
