Northwest Airlines History

Northwest Airlines was established on 1st September, 1926 by Colonel Lewis Brittin as Northwest Airways. Initially, Northwest Airways started operations as a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office Department. With a fleet of two leased, open - cockpit biplanes - a Thomas Morse Scout and a Curtiss Oriole, Northwest Airways established a mail route between Minneapolis to Chicago. In 1927, the airline started flying passengers within America. In the year 1928, Northwest began its first international service to Winnipeg, Canada.
