Cathay Pacific Airways History

Cathay Pacific Airways was founded in September 24, 1946, by Roy Farrell (American) and Sydney de Kantzow (Australia). On the inaugural voyage of Cathay Pacific, Roy Farrell and Sydney de Kantzow flew from Hong Kong to Manila, followed by Shanghai. Initially Cathay Pacific flew in limited routes from Hong Kong to destinations like Sydney, Manila, Singapore, Shanghai and Canton. At that time the scheduled service was available only for Manila, Bangkok and Singapore. In the year 1948, Butterfield and Swire group (now called Swire Group) bought 45 % stake of CathayPacific. On July 1, 1948, the new company started its operations and was registered as Cathay Pacific (1948) Ltd on October 18, 1948. Even today, the 40% stake of Cathay Pacific is owned by the Swire Group through Swire Pacific. Over the years, Cathay Pacific underwent expansion and now has become one of the leading airlines of the world.
